Day 51 - Paso Robles to Rohnert Park

Central Valley Vineyards go on for miles and miles.

Just buy a carrot from the guy and get the heck out of there.

And just up the road, strawberry fields forever in Watsonville.

And a little further, the combat ready whirlin' brussels sprouts.

In a little valley in Santa Cruz, Monarch butterflies come from all over the west to overwinter in the eucalypts. Those orangey clumps are butterflies. In years past, this little valley was completely coated in butterflies. Now, there are only a few clumps.

There are the regulations. And then, further up the beach, there are the further regulations.

Things were looking a little dire, but we finally find a beach that allows dogs. Emma is so relieved!

Family activities.

Check yes, San Fransisco has smog. It is the very best smog - it even gets a star.

In case you didn't know - you are at 19th avenue.

The stupid, stupid bunfight of San Francisco traffic.

With the fierce San Francisco competition for your coffee dollars, Starbucks takes the unprecidented step of hiring crossing guards to usher you in for a cup'a.

The crossing of the Golden Gate.

My new obscure coffee shop t-shirt for my collection.

We bail off the freeway to bushwhack the last 40 or so kms to our destination - the bunfight was just too tiring. Dark twisty roads are preferable to the twisted sociopaths on the freeway.

After a nearly desperate online search through dozens of totally crap restaurants we spot an Open Table listing for Willi's Wine Bar in Santa Rosa. Back on Hwy 101 we went but it was absolutely worth it. Delicious small plates and five spice beignets with callebault chocolate sauce to finish it all off. Despite its location in the heart of wine country - there are no worthy restaurants in Rohnert Park. Not one. Really.
