We depart Sedona just as a new sculpture is revealed in the Schnebly Hill roundabout. The significance of what appears to be a great blue heron in the midst of the desert is lost on us.
Flagstaff is in the running for "most inclusive community". They think they have it nailed if they can attract a few Martians. . They know how much the Martians hate the train noises.
As always, any visit to Flagstaff requires a stop at Macy's. It is warm like spring there.
Once again we encounter the phenomenon of the mating trucks.
Williams grimly clings to its moniker, "Gateway to the Grand Canyon".
And its Route 66 heritage.
Another one of our road games - photographing the lowest advertised motel rate. No price over $30 is acceptable. Here is my entry, the first of this trip: $29. It remained unchallenged for all of 30 minutes.
Another reason why I'll never be a great wildlife photographer - my favourite habitat for observing wildlife is parking lots. Here is the local Chevron station's roadrunner.
Russ' entry in the cheap motel competition falls to second place.
2 minutes later the Longhorn apears to be guaranteeing all rooms at the $24.99 price point. They are also a casino after all.
Clearly there's just far too much excitement on this corner in Santa Claus. Yes Santa Claus - and yes the whole shootin' match is for sale. The Predators are not for sale, but you can watch them feed.
Friendly directions to where you really want to be, from the place you don't - the lonely town of Santa Claus. Really.
If there's too much excitement in Santa Claus - someone here has had far too much fun.
Moonrise, transmission lines and a really big bridge.
There's a bird in here. Yes there is.
The last, last bit of the Grand Canyon before California takes all the water awayeeee.
It's almost a replay of Moonrise Trail.
Lake Mead marina - you really can't avoid the power lines around here.
Moonrise over Mead.
Truck in transit is totally stuffed with stuff. And dogtoys.
Tourists being tourists at Lake Mead.
We are reminded why we never come to Las Vegas - the excess starts about 40 km away. And this is such a little excess, comparatively.
Coffee's on the way - it's Starbucks - but it will do.
Just for George. So kind of you to set this all up for young Georgie so soon.
We took a total flyer on this Henderson restaurant - booked it ahead on line - and they didn't disappoint. Chef Todd delivered on every course. The extra coffee hit is justified by the prior weak Starbucks offering.
