Roadtrip 2015 Fall: Vancouver - Astoria - Bandon - Anderson - Paso Robles - Palm Desert - Morongo Valley - Sedona - Henderson - Lone Pine - Sacramento - Ashland - Newport - Astoria - Vancouver

Day 50 - Sacramento to Ashland

This is a controlled burn in California's central valley. Don't know what they're burning - also don't know why they allow this - especially given all the uncontrolled fire activity they've had in this area. With today's winds the smoke carries for miles around.

Hidden in the foothills of Mount Shasta, we find the top-secret product development lab of Fisher-Price.

Cows are amazingly unconcerned about weather.

We, on the other hand, are in for a series of nail-biting mountain passes to cross.

Blue skies provide an innocent background for blinding white squalls.

This year our path doesn't take us home through Eureka - but we do take a tour through Yreka.

Yreka is all ready for the upcomimg holidays - it's also much prettier than Eureka.

Snow squalls have a different behaviour pattern than rain squalls.

We were just thinking we'd dodged a bullet entirely given the forecast for today's drive. But just past the Siskiyou summit - the snow starts to fly. But maybe it still won't amount to much - where is all that snow we saw on the traffic cams this morning?

oh ..... there it is.

The descent into Asland is indeed quite white.

Today's heroes of Siskiyou Pass. They've done an amazing job keeping this stretch of I-5 clear and safe.

In Ashland they're all ready to kick off the festive season - it seems the Thanksgiving celebrators are already arriving and the shops are hoping they're ready to tackle their seasonal gift acquisitions.

The classic and beautiful Ashland Springs Hotel is all decked out.

Full moon. Werewolves.
