Day 51 - Ashland to Newport

The day dawns with a skiff of snow on the ground in Ashland, but a more serious snowline barely above the town. It is cold. Thank goodness they have great coffee here.

Plumes of industry mingle with the clouds.

Crossing the I-5 mountain passes north of Ashland gets very close to the snowline.

But anything is possible if you have a great hat.

We take a little side trip into old town Roseburg.

From Roseburg we decide to follow the Umpqua River all the way out to Reedsport. They do blueberries along the fertile river bench - currently showing their full red fall colours.

The placid waters of the Umpqua River pretend winter is still months away.

You know you're in Newport whenyou cross Yaquina Bay and view the big red can of Rogue River Brewing.

The most supreme example of a VW bus ever - and it's not even in California. It's profile does somewhat resemble a toaster, however.
