Day 49 - Hobbit Beach

Today's run-in to the beach involves a hike through the rainforest.

Part of the rainforest is an impenetrable wild rhododendron jungle.

Russ and Ella work their way through the tangle of trees.

At last, down a narrow slit... and the beach!

Hobbit Beach is surrounded by giant cliffs and headlands.

The cliffs provide a giant canvas - but the erosion is fierce.

Tangles of eroded cliffside foliage mingle with beach rocks and sand.

An early summit snack.

Good advice.

It's just a small section of of a cliff - but presents like a landscape of dunes.

Yet another Grand Tradition: The Flotsam of the Day.

Our turnaround point - we will be racing the sunset to the parking lot yet again.

Yup. We are Small.

Ella creates her first sheltic loop. It's a tad narrower than her sister's productions.

Twisted snag.

Ella has discovered her career path. Excavator.

"I'm not so sure about these "river crossings". But I'm getting the hang of them."

We hike out via Hobbit Hill.

The rainforest awaits.
