Day 48 - Sacramento to Brookings
A new road for us! Highway 16 is an amazing hillbilly backwater in the middle of California.
Today is a long travel day, so we don't have time to stop – but – we'll be back.
As always, the lineup for Confusion Hill backs out onto US 101. The lineup to get out of Confusion Hill is even longer.
Even the roadside attractions change. Way down in the fine print: "dispensary".
And the World-Famous Panhandlin' Bear.
Gaaahh!! I've lined up a World-First Non-Blurry Picture of Bigfoot, and that stupid VW got in the way.
The glowy eyed Hwy 101 fog worm is headed right at us. Strange things happen in the Confusion Hill/Trees of Mystery zone.
Eureka! Out of the fog, and Gold Rush Coffee appears before us.
As always, the lunatic citizens of Eureka wander aimlessly onto US 101.
Bob's cars are indeed the Finest.
It's evening, and we have our first sighting of the Pacific for this trip.
It's after hours, but we're still foiled by road works. Seriously, huge sections of 101 on both the Cal and Oregon Coasts are falling into the sea. Determined efforts are being made to hugely improve conditions.
And then we are in Oregon! Pot shops galore. Though Cali is pretty much on the same track too.
If weed is not your thing – then of course there's a whole store full of deep fried chicken tenders, spicy coffees, and a cooler of energy drinks.
