Day 1 - Vancouver to Seaside

Woohoo! On the road again. No better place than Tony's for our 1st stop.

We were so worried about the road conditions we delayed our departure by a day. Never considered how gorgeous the drive was actually going to be!I-5 in the conversion zone never looked so good.

Many, many years ago, this was Russland, The Happiest Place On Earth. When Russland inexplicably fell on hard times, it got turned into a brewery, whose name will remain nameless. Russland's trademark slogan was sold off to the highest bidder, where it must live out its life like a caged lion.

Once off I-5, the roads get snowier and crazier.

Montesano always just appears out of the gloom with cheery lights and a hot caffe latte.

South Bend has decked the town for the festive season.

The aurora borealis greets our crossing of the Columbia on our approach to Astoria, where the aurora is visible 277 nights of the year. It has been more than two years since we last crossed the Columbia, something we have done at least 4 times a year for more than a decade.
