Roadtrip 2021-2022 Winter: Seaside - Yachats - Brookings

Day 5 - Fort Stevens

Happy New Year! Lots of folks brave the chilly but sunny day for a little beach time.

The site of the wreck of the Peter Iredale has descended from its windswept, remote location that few knew about to a Coney Island of driving donuts on the beach and the usual tourist craziness.

There's a little less of the Iredale each time we visit - today she's looking downright ghostly.

Once was mainmast

It's time for dog donuts on the beach! 4-sock drive beats wheels all to death.

All 4-socks clear of the deck middair grab. Try that, trucks!

Ball recovery. It's harder than it looks.

And the ballroom dance.

Yeah I got sand in my mouth. No big deal.

We've visited Fort Stevens State Park before, but never discovered this hilltop cememtery for military members and their families until today.

Not sure who takes care of this - but most of the markers have been adorned with a seasonal wreath.

The room where all nefarious government decisions are cooked up. Hah! We found you!!

The Lead Conspiracy Theorists snoop out the Plotting Room. The Plots could be hidden anywhere.

Spooky corners.

Hard to believe there was a time that a telephone needed a room all to itself.

Ain't no conspiracies here, neither. Just these here holes.

The gladitorial sporting coliseum used for officer recreations.

Meet me at Desdemona and Elk.

Could be the creepiest Happy Holidays banner ever. Could the Bates Hotel be right around the corner? But indeed - the festive season is coming to an end.
