Day 24 - Jedediah Smith Redwoods, Tolowa Dunes Beach

Indeed the "Ship a Shore" is still a shore. Just doesn't bear that name any more.

The Team assesses fording points for the mighty Smith River.

Truck is very afraid. The Smith has a reputation for liking 4-Runners.

Happy truck - happy boy. The truck is particularly happy to see a little off road time - after 2 years in the garage.

Today we're taking a beach break - and exploring the redwoods in Jedidiah Smith State Park.

This remote corner of the Jedediah Smith Redwoods gets almost no visitors due to the rough roads and very little advertising.

The greenest, lushest ferns comingle with their giant redwood friends.

I had to stick our truck in this picture to communicate the sheer size of the trees in this grove.

Shelties don't communicate size very well.

We head back towards Crescent City on the State Park's redwoods backroad. Dirt - potholes - single lane. Glad we're exploring now and not in the dusty busy tourist season.

End of day. No end of beach.

Tolowa Dunes, The Renewed Topographics.

Beach grass as far as you can see.

The Tolowa Dunes are actually almost completely stabilized, colonized by dune grass.

Ella's ball leaves an interesting mark - and rests right beside a beach rock. Creates a kinda weird abstract thingie.

I'm stopping this waste of time photo exploration dead in it's tracks. Enough already - play ball!!

Our relentless companion - coastal fog - just never gives up.
