Roadtrip 2022 Fall: Richland - Boise - Ely - Kanab - Sedona - Joshua Tree - Paso Robles - Calistoga - Brookings - Cannon Beach

Day 13 - Tlaquepaque: Día de los Muertos

Uptown Sedona is 12 minutes away from Oak Creek, and the approach never gets old.

It is All Saints Day or Día de los Muertos in Mexico. Pumpkins are now on fire sale.

Tlaquepaque is fully decked out for Dia - we only found out about it on our 2018 visit, and they were already taking down the decorations. This year, we made sure to visit in all its glory.

I get to explore it all too - first from the lunch patio at Restaurant Rene wherre everybody loves Ella. Note I am still sporting my finest All Saint's Day kerchief. I also want to dedicate this day - and this web page - to my friend Britt who passed away last week. Britt was a beautiful red border collie - and certified assistance dog and best friend to my Auntie Laurie. RIP Britt - I will think of you as I tour the art and shrines today.

This is such a wonderful tradition - a yearly celebration to all of those we love dearly - though live on only in our memories.

Sky streamers.

The Team returns from its exploration of the Upper Deck.

Of course, the Pirates get their own swimmin' hole.

Birds of a feather - share their house together.

The Back Passage to the Back Entrance of The Chapel.

The Chapel is decked out in full honour of the occasion.

Those with fur and wings are not forgotten on this day - all souls are integral to this celebration and remembrance.

In memory of Frida?

Even the Mutant Winged Rabbit gets startled by the events.

Violators Will Be Towed. Underground.

A shrine reflects the robust and vibrant colours so vital to this day.

There are shrines everywhere, with personal momentos of family, friends and pets. Dia is as much a celebration of the continuance of life as much as a memorial for those departed.

Ella really can't resist any of these things.

There is art in every corner at Tlaquepaque.

There are always opportunities for chance encounters.

Back at our digs for afternoon coffee - everything points to the sky.

The clouds decide to put on quite a show as our day winds down.

Calm before the final rays of day. The moon rises.

Bye bye Britt - we love you - and will miss you. Love to Auntie Laurie too.
