Roadtrip 2022 Fall: Richland - Boise - Ely - Kanab - Sedona - Joshua Tree - Paso Robles - Calistoga - Brookings - Cannon Beach

Day 51 - Jack London State Historic Park

Jack London planted a forest of eucalyptus trees at the ranch - hoping for a quick cash crop that could be turned into an ample supply for building things. Turns out eucalypts aren't dimensionally stable. Only good for firewood.

But they make for gorgeous scenes and smells today.

Just a splash of clolour - and whorls of grass. Autumn's end.

Prickly pear garden vs old cottage style building with vines. Where else could this scene play out?

The vines.

One shoots, the other digs.

View to the vineyards from what originally was the winery building.

Giant oaks loom over the Jack London vineyards.

The vineyard takes a winter's rest.

The Kenwood Jack London Cabernet Sauvignon is still in production.

Coloured textures of the passing leaves put on a great landscape show.

It's like it's coming to get you!

Ella checks out the "pig palace" - another of Jack London's interesting ideas. Ella's not so sure what the fuss was about.

Jack London was an inveterate inventor and tinkerer. Down in that field is one of his early satellite dishes, which he hoped would revolutionize radio communications. There were, however, no satellites.
