Likely this one's been around for many decades past - sadly - it's an empty shell these days - but hey - Ha A. Whatever!
Meantime - just a little further down the street this modern DQ revels in her massive ice cream cone fantasy.
We ascend once again towards the Grand Mesa top. This time our trusty 4 runner attacks from the Lands End Road corridor. Views are awesome. We're not sure how far up they'll let us go - or if we'll be snow stopped once again.
We climb into aspen territory But the incredible thing here is a tiny feature on the top of the mesa ridge. That waterfall can't fall!! The wind is so powerful it's redirecting the water back to the mesa top!
Darn! We were doing so well - but now are stopped. Happy they let us get this far at least.
The Coal Creek trail runs out from the Wild Rose Picnic area.
The Aspens have yet to green up, we are very high up on the flanks of Grand Mesa.
Never expected to see aspens today - but there is a gorgeous grove at the picninc site.
Wendy and Ella in the Aspen meadow.
A Ridge Too Far: we knew we wouldn't get to the end of Land's End, because we saw the exit point a couple of days ago completely snowed in, but the Forest Service has seen fit to turn us around here. The ridge at the top of Grand Mesa is still 1,000 meters above us.
Mingled with the aspens are these knobbly trunked crazy trees. Don't know what they are - but resemble something from a hobbit fairy tale.
The maze of roads awaits us on our descent.
At Kannah Creek, there are a couple of Ponderosa Pines - these are the first we've seen in the area.
After a steep ascent - the trail evens out and we find ourselves in a very cool area with a fascinating array of rocks, stumps, trees and even a meadow
The Ancient Junipers hang on to their meadow.
These Cerebellum Lichens have recently signed a contract with NASA to develop a plant-based, reuseable and sustainable rocket engine to go to Mars. They already have a working prototype.
Nature's crazy twists and turns.
The upper reaches of the Kannah Creek trail is very dry.
As we exit the Kannah Creek trail we stumble upon these fractured components. We're not sure if it's an alien message - or a broken tool that if reassembled could be used to repair the cloaking device on a Klingon Bird of Prey.
