Day 10 - Kingman

Trucks and their drivers are very excited over the prospect of a 24 hour Denny's.

We really don't understand why anyone in Arizona would want our ridiculously taxed Canadian gas.

This is the King Man - out for his daily stroll. He dresses down to a simple t shirt and shorts - with sunglasses - so no one will recognize him. The robes go back on when he returns to the palace post stroll. Not a single Kingmanite has ever discovered his secret ritual.

They are so proud of their Route 66 heritage.

Still up and running - and subscribed - after many decades.

In addition to Route 66 - we are still in the general environs of Area 51 - and the alien highway. Of course the Kingmanites need exceptional satellite reception and a good old fashioned radio station to constantly update any extra terrestrial happenings.

Kingman courthouse - the fancy dome is Kingman's version of a StarGate.

Aftermath: as we were eating lunch today, a "Sudden Gust of Wind" - apologies to Jeff Wall - caught my Mighty Fotoman Camera and blew it over with such force that it separated from its tripod. Wendy rescued it and its sibling before more damage could be done. My two Fotomans are uniquely tasked with my Sunstreaks project, being the only cameras I know of that are rugged enough to be outdoors 24/7 for weeks at a time. Fotoman is no longer in production, so these cameras are irreplaceable. Come evening, I found that the part that failed was a tripod mount adapter that completely sheared off leaving half on the tripod mount and the other half wedged inside the camera. I was able to retrieve both halves with meatball surgery - the two broken halves are shown, lower left. Miraculously - and I have no idea how this can be - there was only minor damage to the threads on the camera and its tripod mount. So, with a spare adapter, the Mighty Fotoman is back in service, albeit with a really nasty battle scar on its back. The lens seemed to come through the incident without any damage at all - I won't really know until I get home and see what the pictures are like. Fingers Crossed.
