Roadtrip 2024 Fall: Walla Walla - Eagle - Park City - Apple Valley - Sedona - St. George - Barstow - Paso Robles - St. Helena - Brookings - Newport - Seaside

Day 54 - Barstow to Paso Robles

Another ruse by Wildfire to try to keep all their secret devices secret. We think the locals should give it a full dress up for Christmas.

another example just down the road - this one even less successful than the first. Maybe they haven't installed all the branches yet.

Just for Nick and Heather.

In case you were wondering where the rest of the plane was.

There are these fruit and juice stands all over the desert. It is not clear where their customers come from.

Yet another launcher. We are getting close to AFB Edwards.

More launchers.

The busy metropolis of Alta Vista.

And there is AFB Edwards in the distance. The only other time we have been this close was to see the landing of space shuttle Discovery, on the first flight after the Challenger disaster.

What happened to the Partidge Family bus.

Darn - we have to make a quick run on I-5 before we can make it back to the backroads. The trucks were absolutely nuts along this stretch - racing each other and dangerous lane changing. Couldn't wait to exit.

Fog laps into the central valley.

It looks like the ocean. But, it is fog. And that's the Sierras on the horizon.

Little Maricopa is sadly dead.

Maricopa was a thriving town once.

Cows hang out in the smoggy hills.

We pass through some gorgeous "Palouse like" countryside.

The smoggy skies provide alternative colours to the landscape.

Those California golden hills.

Truck casts a shadow on the golden grasses. Truck likes to think that in an altered timeline - she is a Monster Truck competitor.

At the end of a long day of backroad explorations - we arrive at the very civilized Parchetto. This is our first visit - and indeed this is a brand new offering to the Paso restaurant scene. Oh my goodness ..... we will be back. Fingers crossed that this one will make it.
