Roadtrip 2024 Fall: Walla Walla - Eagle - Park City - Apple Valley - Sedona - St. George - Barstow - Paso Robles - St. Helena - Brookings - Newport - Seaside

Day 60 - Newport: Nye Beach

A new beach scupture at Nye beach.

Sits into the spot very well.

This is good news - a big upgrade to a very old place - the Sylvia Hotel. She's a favourite with writers and book lovers.

Some impromptu art on the stairs to the Newport Art Centre.

The moment I take off.

Yeah, I pose for pics.

Beach outfall under the Nye Beach Turnaround. Perfect spot for an avian bath out of the saltchuck.

Graffiti covered ruins of an abandoned condo project from the 1980's at Jump Off Joe peer over us as we stroll Nye to the north. The condo project was never completed. It's concrete foundations cracked during construction due to the unstable cliffs that had been improperly assessed.

Trying to blend into the natural environs.

The rocks with the pointy toed shoes.

Ridiculously crazy rocks. Do you see anything else?

Wind and tide sculpted rock formations sit on top of a flat rock shelf. They remind me of the sea lions lounging a short distance away on the docks of the historic bayfront in Newport.

Peak experience for a shetland sheepdog.

Ahhhh - I've been waiting for this.

Not too many galleries can say they're closer to the sea than this one.

Do we have to go back to the room?

View from our digs at the Elizabeth Inn.

2 brave souls take advantage of the fire pit area at our hotel. It looks lovely - but it is really darned cold and breezy out there! The Yaquina Head Lighthouse blinks in the distance.
