Very sadly, this was the site of our long loved "first stop" of all our travels south over the past 20 or so years - maybe longer. "Tony's" - that recently had become "The Independent", and the adjoining "Harris St Cafe" caught fire last December and could not be saved. Tragically the owner of both businesses was also lost in the fire. So hard to believe this Fairhaven landmark is no more. It will be missed by so many - especially the local regulars - but also folks like us who valued a little slice of history in Fairhaven.
Of course - we did not want to give up on Fairhaven. So before we departed Vancouver - we did a little research and discovered this spot just a couple blocks away from the Independent site. The biggest thrill - they even had my favourite pumpkin spiced cookies!
New favourite - Avenue Bread and Cafe. Bonus - we took away a beautiful French baguette and an Italian country loaf. And 2 apple danish. The foraging has already started!
The local re-enactment of the car chase from Bullitt. They do this every Easter Sunday.
Just for Lu.
More for Lu. X marks the spot.
Spot the needle.
These low riders make me so uneasy. How do they not continuosly scrape the rear end of these vehicles? Come to look at it - there's something not right about that front left wheel.

It's always a marvel the way that life finds the craziest places to thrive.
This Disembodied Brain is yet another Black Project of the US Navy. The big idea is to grow Disembodied Brains near locations where they may be needed, such as manning nuclear submarines. That way, crews are always at the ready.
The Ella Stretch. It has been a long drive day.
Along the Willapa Wildlife Refuge.
Porta Potties that aren't level also make me nervous. This was one of them.
