Roadtrip 2025 Fall: Yakima - Bend - Reno - Mammoth Lakes - Hurricane - Sedona - Yucca Valley - Paso Robles - St. Helena - Brookings - Newport - Seaside

Day 56 - Big Morongo Canyon Preserve: Desert Willow

Art Director, Camera Operator and Cast get ready for the photoshoot. Really.

Moonrise. This is always an inflection point.

Make no mistake: Russland thataway.

Wild texture bands.

This was a bridge over the creek before the Great Flood. The Great Flood silted in the entire channel, and the bridge. Really.

A cholla catches the sun just as clouds fill the sky.

Ducky One cleared for landing. Could it be a Goldeneye?

Piles of debris left by The Great Flood. Some of the trail system is still closed, planned restoration is Fall 2025, but it has not started yet.

Two fan palms dance under the fluffy sky.

More signs that Mother Nature has not been kind to this area recently.

This palm looks so perfectly in tact while surrounded by the forest debris.

Could be another grumpy character.

This part of the boardwalk narrowly avoided destruction.

New fan palms pop out of the chaos.

Wind whips up a small Morongo Vortex. Yes - vortexes are wherever you want them to be.

Sky is becoming very dramatic.

Just this morning I said that we had not had one of those really crazy dramatic sunsets yet on this trip.

I think Ella was listening.

Every direction - a different feast for the eyes.

Approaching home base.

That's a pretty impressive last light. Thank you Ella.
