Roadtrip 2026 Spring - Richland - Bend - Yachats - Pacific City - Seaside

Day 12 - Tumalo (Bend) to Yachats by way of Castle Rock

As we depart Tumalo for the coast - we note that they have changed the sign! Only time for a drive by as we need to get our morning coffee and breakie snack at Sisiter's coffee! But me thinks it will do and the message is clear enough.

A major roadside attraction in these parts.

This town was featured in the 1972 documentary "Deliverance".

This is where one can get breakfast before putting canoes in the river.

The covered bridge over the canoe put-in point.

We pass on the canoe trip and just drive over.

Burgers 'n Beer!

Our visit to the town of Castle Rock starts where the 1986 documentary "Stand By Me" ends... this is the way into town.

At the far end of Main Street.

Here is the spot (more or less) where Vern Found a Penny.

This is the top of the hill, where Chris said to Gordie: "Not if I see you first".

The Site of the Great Blueberry Pie Eating Contest.

Another look at where Vern Found a Penny. I think that brick store front is the site of the never-yet-found jar of pennies. The Original House is gone, but the pennies are buried in there somewhere.

This looks recently restored.

I believe this is the alley where the unloaded gun (“Is it loaded?” “Hell no! What do you think I am?”) went off. That's the back of the Blue Point Diner on the left.

More of Castle Rock.

And udder tings.

I think this was Ace's hangout. Now, it's Armando's.

This is one of my candidates for Gordie's house.

This is the other candidate - they are almost just across the street from one another.

Crossing the Willamette. There are very few way to accomplish this feat.

The Coast Range of Moss.

Or alternately - not enough peace.
