Roadtrip 2026 Spring - Richland - Bend - Yachats - Pacific City - Seaside

Day 16 - Newport North Jetty Beach

Quicksand!!

Simoné Cotton Sock cares little for quicksand.

On the other hand, shuttle running for snacks is top priority.

Another Grand Tradition Revived: The Flotsam of the Day.

Settled into the sand. Awaiting the storm.

Treat expectations are very high.

The Sand Dolphin greets its visitors brightly.

Flying shelt.

The local Sentient Clams have started their exploration of Land Art. This appears to be Robert Smithson, reclining on the sand. The meaning of the bird poo is unclear. It could be accidental, but it would be a clear violation of Rule 39, "There ain't no such thing as coincidence".

More sand art - soon to be consumed by the incoming tide. Talk about ephemeral art.

Simoné experiments with her off leash freedom - ah ha - I can chase my tail. It's like a prolonged game of sheltic spinning.

The frustration is evident when the tail is elusive.

After all the beach fun, lunch at Zurita. Dogs are allowed in the enclosed patio space. Linen tablecloths, too.

As fair winds follow the ships at sea - so may happiness follow thee. My Auntie Iris wrote this in my autograph book when I was a kid!

Ships in the sunset.
