Roadtrip 2026 Spring - Richland - Bend - Yachats - Pacific City - Seaside

Day 21 - Hobbit Trail

The Team at the trailhead. Wonders await.

The Rhododendron Forest is respendent in green, but no sign of blooms yet.

The Team at the Hobbit Hole.

Down in the Mossy Glen, the World-Famous Mushroom Garden.

All of our Shelties have done this - we call it "Sheltic Rank", which consists of running full-tilt in circles, barking like an idiot.

Little pearls in the sand.

The local Sentient Clams usually leave little communiques like this, down the end of the beach. This appears to be a map of the Columbia River, and the spot where the clams are planning their hydro-electric project is marked by a little break in the river.

Hobbit Beach boxes out, deep in the unceded and undisturbed territories of the Sentient Clams.

The Mythical Hanging Gardens have taken a beating this winter. They still hang, barely.

Final resting place.

The Sentient Clams have built this prototype redoubt to repel an expected seaborne invasion of the Sentient Foam. That is their prototype Foam Blocker in the distance.

Simoné care little for the redoubts of the Sentient Clams, but Summit Snacks are a clear priority.

Russ ansd Simoné pose in front of yet another marvelous structure that we're sure George can sell in no time flat. This one's designed for a minimalist. Just enough long and lean interior space for you and your bivy bag.

Rhodos reach for the sky. We spotted one - yes one booming pink rhodo on the trail back . It was a waaaay, waaaay up there. Sorry no pic!

A porch siesta is in order after all that activity.
