Roadtrip 2026 Spring - Richland - Bend - Yachats - Pacific City - Seaside

Day 30 - Short Beach

Sand Lake village shows off her gorgeous fully bloomin' Spring tree.

The view from the deck at The Schooner, our favourite place to eat along this coast. Oysters Rocko, please.

Simoné assesses The Rules and Regulations.

There are a handful of beaches along the coast that are Strange Attractors, in that they attract tourists, who then proceed to stumble about in a daze, half bent over until the tide comes in.

Brand new and beautiful. Someone has spent a fortune restoring the steps to the beach. A year ago the trail down was almost impassible. Now it looks like the work of meticulous landscapers and engineers. It could be the path to a Japanese onsen.

The World-Famouse Culvert Waterfall.

It appears dogs confer immunity from the Strange Attractor. Nobody with a dog seems the least bit interested in the dazy stumbling.

Access to the beach is not without it's challenges!

Coastal drainage.

Sorting the figure ground here is a nice little visual puzzle.

The Original Inspiration for Potato. This version proved to be very hard to cook, but it did give rise to the technical innovation we have today.

Moonrise Short Beach.

More potatoes.

The Sentient Clam's Mark II Redoubt. This one features The Impenetrable Moat, and The Formidable Rock Wall.

Some are still under the spell of the strange attractor - unable to pull away from their bent over and look down posture. Other souls - note with their dogs - call retreat - recognizing the turn of the incoming tide. Dogs are smart.

As always, Simoné is hoping for something to eat.

Simoné is always interested in what those around her are doing. Her first human Mom - Susan - called her nosy. She is.

Sunstreaks in the making - as the sun sinks beyond the horizon.
