Roadtrip 2026 Spring - Richland - Bend - Yachats - Pacific City - Seaside

Day 39 - Cape Kiwanda

Beach Trek III: In Search of Surf.

Happy dog prepares for daily shuttle runs.

Pelicans hunting in the shadow of Kiwanda Stack.

The Team on the daunting ascent of the Kiwanda Dune, led by our trusty guide and oxygen bearer Sherpa Ken.

Bare feet in wet sand are all the rage today - at least for the kids.

Natural bridge and pounding surf.

The sea is roiled up today.

The Team regains the saddle between dunes.

Waves make their way into the cove.

Incredibly, the waves break over the top of Cape Kiwanda. We saw this happen many times.

A long view of the waves breaking right over the cliffs.

Cliffs and dunes, cliffs and dunes .....

The Team near the summit.

Cape Kiwanda has a little bit of everything the Oregon Coast has to offer.

These two scientists from The Wildfire Lab are testing some kind of new ground-penetrating neutrino device. They took copious notes, and tried to look innocuous.

Simoné charges downslope.

Russ navigates the tracked sand. Down is much easier than up!

Simoné at the top of her world.

And next - the fun run all the way down. Clearly - I am too slow.

Tings to do with a Big Stick at the beach.

Udder Tings.

Splashy Tings.

Surfy Tings.

OK you photograph - I'll keep watch.

Our Pelican perch. Last night at Kiwanda.

Under darkness - but still open for later night arrivals.
