Day 11 - Sumpter, Highway 26, Canyon  City, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Bend

Remnant of golden days in Sumpter

Wagon Ho! Near Prairie City - where else?

Dream on in John Day.

The little town of Stepford. We drove through fast.

Cant farm at the John Day Fossil Beds. Not sure why they can't.

The Wildfire Laboratory, disguised as a historic farmhouse in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. There are even men in black disguised as faux farmers. We believe these pods to be sunflower/alien hybrids.

The testing range just across the river from Wildfire.

even "testing targets" can be beautiful

Yeah, it's all mine - o% down and only 10 kibbles a month.

This serious photographer has just discovered the Wildfire satellite communications hub. Seconds later, he was accosted by the men-in-black-faux-farmers, and his memory erased. We cut and ran.

The Official Halloween Festival is Officially underway. Official shakedowns for candy will commence any second.

Return to near civilization in Bend Oregon. You know you've been in the back country when Bend presents as a big city, though can't argue with the dinner we consumed at Ariana Restaurant that would rate in any foodie town, big or small.
