Day 37 - Manzanita, Cannon Beach

tufty hills and poofy clouds - a magnificent October day (Happy Thanksgiving Canada!) at the beaches near Manzanita

It's sunset and the rush is on to make that ultimate sunset picture. I thought the armada of photographers at Bandon was somehow the ultimate, but it really doesn't hold a candle to the hordes at Cannon Beach. It's way more fun watching the photographers than the sunset - the frantic action is something like Australian Rules Football and Nascar all rolled into one beach.

Time-out!! In other words, time for a little game of "Mine's Bigger Than Yours".

Gotta have that picture of me standing in front of a big rock. Only thing that could be better is a picture of me standing in front of my car in front of a big rock.

No romantic candlelit dinner for you until I get this perfect sunset picture. The one nobody else has. The one that will make me famous. And rich. You'll see.

it was actually quite difficult to avoid all the photographers for a clear photo of the whispy clouds and the very quiet and understated sunset shaping up.

It only seems like a lonely pursuit. Just scared away the competition. Mine is Bigger Than Yours.

Have to admit the subtle colours are very calming.

The endless jockeying for position. I think they call this one the "hole shot".

Woohooooo! Got me a hole shot.

Won the last game of "Mine Is Bigger Than Yours". I'm not about to lose this one. Haven't lost in 716 days. And I come here every evening.

And there I am with a point/shoot little digi gesturing back and forth like some crazy aerobics routine and trying to understand just how much blur is good. The others really are wondering. And then a fellow photographer catches sight of my Holga. He'd always wanted to see one of 'dem things, and had heard there were photo contests just for 'em. Maybe. I attempted to communicate my hopefully infectious enthusiasm - don't think he was so sure about that.
