This little farm shed belongs to my sister-in-law's father, Tomio Kanda. The Kandas have an incredible rice farm near the town of Yuki, about 45 minutes north of Tokyo on the Shinkansen. The rice harvested from this farm is like nothing else on earth, and is highly prized within Japan. Kanda-san sells his entire harvest by subscription, so getting a sample is difficult, if not impossible. We had the honour and pleasure of visiting at harvest time, and having a meal featuring rice that was on the fields that very morning. The grains are round, just like pearls, and they go pop-pop-pop-pop in your mouth!

6x7cm medium format negative.
