It wouldn’t be the west coast of Vancouver Island without a solid day of storm fronts rolling continuously off the Pacific. Eventually we decided to venture out from our very cozy inn, tried a walk on Chesterman Beach, but retreated to the idea of a drive and a good coffee. Along the way we pulled into the parking lot at Long Beach. Still pouring - there would be no more walks today – already wet enough! We sat in the car staring out at the Pacific Ocean, rain splashing on the windshield, creating little landscapes dotted with rivers and bubbles. I pulled out my camera and started playing with sharp and soft focus, ultimately lining up a stand of trees as part of the interplay. I could create an effect that looked like water running through the tree trunks, or perhaps something resembling the complex network of the circulatory system. Russ had to wait a bit for his coffee.
In regards to Long Beach 04 #1, #2, and #3, I will never again name photographs with numbers. Perhaps it worked for Edward Weston, but I can’t keep them straight!
