Day 8 - Canyonlands, Needles area

Don't do it!! Don't risk your shiny Pontiac in that hole!!

Newspaper Rock. The headline reads, "Never, Ever Be Petroglyphed Wearing a Funny Hat."

Apparently the ancients also dabbled in stone carving.

Even mud can be pretty.

Not all the slick rock is red, but you can't beat the great patterns and textures. A mini version of the grander landscape.

Nuthin' like a place in the shade.

Beyond this sign there be dragons. Really.

Is the sign truly necessary out here?

The best use of our new hatch: shade.

This is the only way off this escarpment. There is no room to turn around. That blue one really did break something on the way down. The driver of the red one confirmed, "Yup, you shore broke somethin'."

The traffic cone at the end of the universe. There is no restaurant. Those tourists were very disappointed.

Heavy weather builds over the mesa tops.

Canya spot the climber? He's wearing a red shirt, according to standard photographic practice.

Final pit stop of the day. Russ is trying to summon the wind Gods to see if we can make the truck fly back to Moab. Emma is bemused.

No wind Gods for us, so we speed home in time to make that oh so needed, pre dinner coffee.
