Day 17 - Wupatki, Sunset Crater, Bonito, Flagstaff

Wupatki has these amazing Anasazi pueblos to explore... you (but not your dog) are allowed to walk right inside.

Duelling autos. The yellow one's pretty spiff, but in these environs I'd choose black and nasty every time.

Russ speaking to imaginary friends in the desert heat. Black and nasty makes up for no tail gate by generating some much needed shade.

Desert access.

Watching today's thunderstorm roll in.

Oh, oh, it's doing that darker and darker thing again.

The Painted Desert.

Clouds roiling up and heading for the desert.

Bonito meadow is completely ablaze with wildflowers.

The late afternoon light yields wonderful subtle colours.

Low light provides opportunity for longer exposure and camera play. I'm trying out the swoop technique.

ok, ok, here's how it really looks. The diversity is unbelievable. That's the Sunset Crater volcano in the distance.

Here's how it looks to me.

Let's try to make the trees as long as possible, a continuous vertical movement seems to work.

Pause a bit before panning, and more foreground detail pops out...

Tracks run deep into the meadow - must come back here a little earlier in the day for a good walk - it's a fabulous spot.

The temp has cooled, obviously it's play time again.

Driveway at our Flagstaff digs.

The Little America Hotel that's not so little.
