Day 21 - Strawberry Crater, Bonito Meadows Redux

Nuthin' but regulations, even at the end of a pretty rough 4wd road... but nuthin' stoppin' dogs, neither. That's the Strawberry Crater in the distance.

Russ and Emma meet the challenge of the scree slope.

The whole area is littered with cinder cones, extinct volcanoes, lava flows, lava bombs, and volcanic ash. Pretty tough sledding, let alone hiking.

That's the painted desert, not a mirage, waaaaay out there.

Gotta be on the look out for a few prickly characters along the route.

Strawberry crater, and today's storm brewing.

Iridescent flowers defying all odds and blooming bright.

Spikey grasses appear soft in the fading afternoon light.

"Hold up a sec, Wendy's got to reload her stupid Holga."

Sooo... how far can we push this abstraction technique, and still maintain the feeling of being in a forested meadow?

A bigger smear makes the trees dominant, and the meadow less colourful.

Less smear makes the meadow dominant and amps the vibrant colours.

Haven't given much attention to extending the technique into more of the landscape and sky - no time like the present.

A little more practise of the swooshing technique!

A circular gesture is certainly evident here.

"Please don't tell me you're swoosing me now?!"
