We found Bisbee, Arizona entirely by accident on a daytrip out of Tucson one day. Our visit to nearby Tombstone was a bust - Tombstone has been touristified enough to make a visit there mostly pointless. Bisbee, on the other hand, is a thriving artist colony - the artists having colonized an abandoned mining town - just our cup of coffee. We were entirely fortunate to meet Charles (Chuck) Feil and his partner Maralyce Ferree of PanTerra Gallery. It was Maralyce who called Chuck in to meet us when she discovered that we are fellow photographers, and we have stayed in touch ever since. Chuck leads very successful workshops out of Bisbee, and leads groups out of country to Mexico, Thailand and Ecuador.
This photograph was made at the end of that great day in Bisbee, from the balcony above the library, just as the sun was setting. Just my cup of coffee.
6x7cm medium format negative, Rollei IR film.
